Product Description
Made in Great Britain exclusively for the J. Paul Getty Museum, this 24 track disc features classical music from the Baroque Period. This collection of secular and liturgical melodies evokes an array of emotions as do the works of art from the Baroque Era. Many of the tracks on this disc are instrumental while several pieces feature charming, if not haunting, vocals.
For nearly every musician and composer before the nineteenth century, and perhaps beyond, Italy was the cradle of all that was new and good in the art of music-making. In the late sixteenth century a new musical style arose, its creators centered mainly around the courts and noble patrons of Northern Italy. Bologna, Ferrara and Verona were just some of the cities which were amongst the first to hear this new Baroque sound. Baroque music was marked by the opera and the concerto, two interrelated but outwardly different manifestations of this pursuit of emotion and expression, and these two forms are carefully represented in the selection of music on this album.
